AhlulBayt News Agency: The number of people taking part in Itikaf (religious retreat) ceremonies across Iran in the current Iranian calendar year (began on March 21, 2025) reached 1.25 million.
Participation in Itikaf rituals has significantly increased in recent years, showing people’s growing interest in the spiritual ceremonies.
Most of those attending Itikaf are youth, with statistics showing that some 70 percent of them are 30 years of age and younger.
The present of school students is also growing year after year, with more than 600,000 school students performing Itikaf in cities and towns across Iran this year.
In terms of gender, 61 percent of participants in Itikaf have been women and 39 percent have been men.
Itikaf is a tradition of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his family, and is regarded as a highly rewarding act of worship in Islam.
It is a spiritual practice in Islam that involves staying in a mosque for a certain number of days, fasting, and praying to God.
It is usually performed on the 13th, 14th, and 15th of Rajab, the seventh month of the Islamic calendar, which fell on January 3, 4, and 5 this year.
